EleksWFD custom firmware

Replacement firmware and a Windows companion app for the EleksWFD LED desk clock, with standalone WiFi time, weather, animations, and browser controls.

The WFD dashboard with a live clock preview, brightness and time controls, CPU/GPU/RAM meters, and separate message settings for standalone and PC operation.

EleksWFD custom firmware gives an EleksMaker LED desk clock independent WiFi timekeeping, weather, browser controls, and programmable animations. An optional Windows app turns the same display into a PC audio visualizer and system monitor.

The project covers reverse engineering the stock device, mapping its display, writing replacement ESP32 firmware, and building the companion software and installation tools.

Standalone clock

The clock synchronizes time over WiFi using NTP, uses its DS3231 real-time clock, and fetches weather from Open-Meteo. Its browser dashboard controls brightness, 12- or 24-hour time, weather location, messages, and animations.

The onboard microphone drives bass and treble columns and sound-reactive animations. The 7×7 grid also plays weather scenes and custom drawings saved through a frame editor. Messages can scroll text or rotate through the date and temperature.

These functions run on the clock while powered from a USB charger. Time synchronization and fresh weather require internet access.

Optional Windows companion

A Rust application adds PC audio and microphone visualization, CPU/GPU/RAM meters, and messages based on the active window title or custom text. It finds the clock over the local network or connects through USB, with automatic preference for USB when available.

The companion and firmware serve the same dashboard and drawing editor. Clock settings persist on the device; the app owns the settings for its PC features. When the app stops, the clock resumes its standalone display.

Firmware and recovery tools

The Windows USB flasher backs up the device's full flash and verifies the backup before writing the replacement firmware. Subsequent updates can run over WiFi, and the companion app includes a matching firmware build.

Support targets the ESP32-WROOM-32D EleksWFD hardware documented in the repository. Follow the flashing guide, including the USB 2.0 guidance and backup requirements for your own clock.
